FOODCO$TCHEF CALCULATOR

Excel-based Food Cost Software for kitchen professionals

Designed and programmed by a Chef

As my Head Chef Instructor from Sault College once told me:
“It doesn’t matter if you’re the best Chef in the country. You’ve still got to know your f*ing numbers!”**

Ever since that day, I’ve been obsessed with dialing in the real cost of every plate—and making sure every sale actually adds up for the business. Creating recipes and menus your customers crave is just the beginning, because it’s only good food if the math works.

The FoodCostChef Calculator brings this edge to your kitchen—so you’re a legend on the line—and a boss in the office.

It's only good food if the math works.

It’s true. Good food needs to be accounted for. As a creative chef or kitchen manager, that’s also part of your job. But there’s no reason to make it the hard part.

Imagine your recipes not as scattered papers, thick files, or shuffled invoices – but as a dynamic blueprint of your kitchen’s financial health. An operation where every dash of spice and every measure of ingredient is accounted for, not just in taste – but in cost. That’s what the Food Cost Chef Calculator delivers.

Why Choose Food Cost Chef Calculator?

Cost Analysis at Your Fingertips: Analyze individual recipe costs, break down cost per batch or serving, and gain comprehensive insights to price your menu strategically.

Add your sales numbers from your POS system, and you have valuable data to help make decisions about menu changes and strategies. Let your customers tell you what you’re doing right and what you need to fix.

Understanding Ingredient Yields in Food Costing.

When your projected food costs already account for the fact that 5% of your dairy will spoil, that 15% of your oysters will get eaten by staff doing quality checks, that some percentage of everything will hit the floor or get measured wrong — your actuals come in where you expected them. A Practical Guide to Weight-to-Volume Conversion in Recipe Costing

A lot of recipes — especially older ones, family recipes, recipes pulled off the internet, recipes handed down from a previous chef — are written entirely in volume. Cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, fluid ounces. You're not going to rewrite every recipe in your collection overnight, and you shouldn't have to.

You Don’t Need Permission to Start Food Costing

The FoodCostChef Calculator isn't a flat spreadsheet. When you enter an ingredient price, it cascades through every recipe that uses it. Your base recipes feed into your core recipes, your core recipes build into plated items, and your plated items show you real margins. Change the price of chicken once and it updates through your chicken stock, your chicken soup, and your soup-and-salad plate automatically.
